Hepplewhite Mahogany Sheraton Bow-Front Chest. Mass. (poss. Salem) circa 1815-25
An exceptional bowed front chest in mahogany with unparalleled 'crotch' mahogany veneers and banded with cross grain mahogany. The oblong top with outset rounded corners, three-quarter turned reeded columns, and inlay edge, over four dovetailed and cockbeaded drawers all resting on turned tapering legs.
The drawer fronts are veneered with highly-exotic crotch grain mahogany and banded with rosewood. The choice use of spectacular mahogany veneer used on the drawer fronts is most striking and gives testament to this chest being made by a most experienced and knowledgeable 'master' craftsman.
The feet and oval brass pulls (with urns & flowers) are original. Minor old restoration to two (2) legs and to bottom side trim moulding.
